From Montichiari main destination and closest is the Lake Garda.
The approach with the Lake takes place in Desenzano of Garda, lively and cute town placed on the extreme south-west part of the lake, of which the most striking part is the old living nucleus centered around the old port and at Piazza Malvezzi. In Desenzano we have an archaeological museum with findings that were found in the surrounding territory, the Castle that goes back to the XV century and a Roman Villa belonging to the III – IV century, where one can admire the richness of the floor decorations of mosaics in this Roman posh villa.
Desenzano is the ideal departure point for a tour of the lake aboard a boat. In fact, navigating the Garda proposes (from March to October) the tour of the lake with lunch aboard from Desenzano to Riva del Garda, the point of the lake.
Near Desenzano there is Sirmione, that for its unforgettable beauty it is known by tourists from all over the world. The Scaligera Fortress, that reflects in the blue waters of the lake, is the distinctive element of the old living nucleus and it imposes itself for its elegance and the simplicity of its lines. Its construction goes back to the Venetians that built a defensive garrison. The panoramic path is very beautiful; it takes you from the Fortress down to the beach and to the "Catullo Grottoes", the old residence of the Roman poet Catullo. The site is characterized by a block of buildings that were developed around an older building from the I century a.d..
Going back up the Verona bank of the Lake you get to Peschiera del Garda, fortress town of Quadrilatero. The ramparts that surrounded it were imposing and coasted the Mincio river. From Peschiera del Garda in a few minutes there is Gardaland, the big amusement park and the other theme parks of Garda like Natura Viva, the zoo safari, Movie Studios and Caneva World.
The other important towns of the Verona lake coast are Lazise, medieval jewel that still conserves the charm of a city of that period intact; Bardolino, famous for its wine, Garda and Malcesine.
The city more north of the lake is Riva del Garda that, in Trento territory, marks the conjunction between the two banks of the lake.
From Riva del Garda following the Brescian bank you will meet Limone sul Garda, Toscolano - Maderno and Gardone Riviera, famous for the presence of the "Vittoriale of Italians", the home museum of Gabriele D'Annunzio.
Walking down the coast you get to Salò, renowned tourist town that is famous for being the capital of the homonym republic of Mussolini, and, through San Felice del Benaco, Manerba and Padenghe, you return to Desenzano.
